 We won! Machine O Matic was nominated for its significant achievements in the areas of transition of family ownership and management and relationship with the community. Kevin, Belinda, Erika, Shannon, and Paul attended the CAFE awards dinner, which was held in Edmonton on October 22nd at the Sutton Place Hotel. It was exciting to hear them announce us as the winner and even more exciting to be able to accept the award in person.
Congratulations to the Lang family for all of their efforts in succession planning. For the last five years, the family has been planning for Al to retire and the business to be handed to the next generation of Langs, Kevin and Belinda. They (and Erika too) have been working hard to prepare for this coming change, and the CAFE Award is recognition of this work.

Plans for expansion of the oil sands industry in Alberta are well under way, and it's all happening at an incredibly fast rate. With over 52 projects approved, proposed, or underway at an estimated cost of $155.6 billion, Alberta's capacity and capability over the next decade will be a phenomenon worth tracking. Though factors such as the high Canadian dollar, the looming royalty rate hike, and the impact of taxes on income trust funds are currently affecting the oil and gas industry, its future looks bright and promising.
